The 16 Mile Brewing Company will welcome pets and humans alike to the all-day outdoor 16 Miles of Animal Mayhem meet-and-greet Saturday, May 7.

Sponsored by Debbie's fund, the noon to 5 p.m. event will feature food, music, shopping and pets. Debbie's Fund is named for Debra Sipple, who passed away in 2004 at the age of 45. Seven of her closest friends and family founded Debra L. Sipple Memorial Inc. or Debbie's Fund, commemorating her memory and her love for animals. The nonprofit trust fund raises money for other animal nonprofit organizations in Delaware.

While active in Kent and New Castle counties, Debbie's Fund is new to Sussex. Event coordinator Bobbi Chandler said the group aims to spread the word and attract new interest with this event. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated. Donors will be eligible for raffles and door prizes. Food vendors include Bethany Blues and Rita's water ice. 16 Mile will offer free brewery tours and beer for purchase. About 30 vendors will have booths for selling home goods, candles, old American

flags, art, jewelry, scarves, puppy products and much more.

Although the event is primarily a meet-and-greet, 16 Mile and most of the vendors will donate a portion of their proceeds to Debbie's Fund. Most vendors will contribute one item from their display for the raffle or door prize. A live broadcast by 93.5 The Beach is from noon to 2 p.m., and live music from the cover band American Standard is from 2 to 5 p.m.

Pets on leashes are welcome to join the celebration. They are not allowed inside the brewery, and unruly pets will be asked to leave. Owners will be responsible for picking up pet waste and should bring bags to do so.

People without pets may still take them home, as Whimsical Animal Rescue from Seaford will have animals for adoption onsite. People may also bring items to donate to the rescue group, including fun or necessary items for dogs and cats.

Dogs and their Companions of Milford will provide American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen tests for dogs. This 10-part test is sometimes required by homeowner associations and insurance policies as proof that the dog is a good canine citizen. The $10 fee will be donated back to

Debbie's Fund.

16 Mile will host the event in a large field, so guests may bring blankets and chairs to enjoy the day, picnic style. Tables wul not be provided.

Chandler said the new brewery has been very helpful and ac-commodating. The 16 Mile Brewing Company is located at 413 S. Bedford St. in Georgetown. Parking will be available across the street in the Catholic Charities and law firm parking lots. Signs will be posted.
