Rehoboth summer regs set to go into effect

Meters will be uncovered May 27

Memorial Day means a lot of things in America: backyard barbecues, honoring our nation's veterans and armies of tourists heading down to Rehoboth Beach.

In anticipation of the Memorial Day weekend influx, the city has already started enforcing its summer-only regulations.

Left-hand turns at traffic signals on Rehoboth Avenue are prohibited, and parking meters and parking permits will go into effect Friday, May 27. Meters will cost $1.50 per hour throughout the city.

Credit cards can be used at the meters on the first two blocks of Rehoboth Avenue. The city will

have quarters available in $500 increments for businesses that request them starting Saturday, May 28. Quarters will be available for businesses at the city administrative offices.

Parking meters will be in effect from 10 a.m. to midnight until Sunday, Sept. 18. Parking permits are in effect from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. until after Labor Day. Permits are available at the Parking Meter Division offices behind City Hall

and at the visitors' center at 501 Rehoboth Ave.

Skateboards and bikes are not allowed on the Boardwalk from May 15 to Thursday, Sept. 15, except for the hours between 5 a.m to 10 a.m. Dogs are prohibited on the beach and Boardwalk until Friday, Sept. 30, as a result of a recent change by the city commissioners.

First State Disposal, the city's recycling contractor, has already

started picking up recyclables every Friday.

For those who are not participants in the city's recycling program, the city has recycling containers available behind the fire hall.

The city does not allow new residential home construction until Nov. 1. Demolition is not allowed from May 15 to Sept. 15.
