Volunteers are needed for National Trails Day at Cape Hen-lopen State Park from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, June 4. Volunteers of all ages are invited. Groups -families, businesses, youth groups - as well as individuals are encouraged to participate.

The main emphasis is on doing maintenance - pruning overgrowth; clearing debris; picking up trash - on all of the various trails throughout the park. They-will also be doing some invasive species removal, beach cleanup and landscaping.

Volunteers will meet at the large picnic pavilion located adjacent to the main bathing beach parking lot and choose one of the above-mentioned projects to work on from 9 a.m. to noon. At noon everyone all come back to the pavilion to enjoy a cookout given by the ladies of the Village Improvement Association. After the meal, they will hear from Cape Gazette publisher Dennis Forney, the guest speaker.

The first 100 volunteers will receive a free National Trails Day Tshirt.

National Trails Day, a National Service Day created by the American Hiking Association, is sponsored by the Friends of Cape Henlopen State Park. The mission of the Friends in sponsoring this event has been threefold: to assist the Park in maintaining their trails; to encourage citizens of all ages to become involved in volunteerism in their communities; and to promote the stewardship of natural resources.
