The Delaware Foundation Reaching Citizens is reaching out to some of Delaware's youngest citizens by providing a $5, 800 grant to support the Can-Do Playground in Milford. That playground, to be constructed in Mjlford's Tony Silicato Memorial Park, will open up a world of play to children with physical, cognitive or sensory disabilities that limit their opportunities to use traditional playground equipment. The Can-Do Playground will be accessible to children and families of all abilities.

Founded in 1956, DFRC holds fundraisers and distributes the proceeds to programs that enrich the lives of Delawareans with intellectual disabilities. Since its founding, it has awarded more than $5 million in grants to agencies and organizations that provide a range of educational, recreational, residential and vocational services.

Delaware's first Can-Do Playground, developed in Wilmington in 2007, was the result of a partnership among-six area Rotary Clubs and Delaware State Parks. Its success in the subsequent three years inspired the concept of a downstate location. As a consequence, six Area 4 Rotary Clubs have joined with the City of Milford and its Department of Parks and Recreation to bring the dream to fruition. Milford provided the location for the playground near the Greater Milford Boys & Girls Club, the Delaware Veterans Home and Delaware Hospice, and will maintain the playground once it is constructed.

The six Rotary Clubs (Milford, Milford-Mispillion, Lewes-Re-hoboth, Harrington-Greenwood-Felton Centennial, Rehoboth Sunrise and Nanticoke-Seaford) have combined efforts, formed a team and challenge the community to help raise the $800, 000 needed for the project.

The Can-Do Playground at Milford is a 501(c)3 charitable organization, and all donations are tax deductible. Contributions may be sent to Rotary Area 4 Can-Do Playground, P.O. Box 924, Milford, DE19963.
