The Lewes-Rehoboth Rotary Club, at its dinner meeting May 16 at Irish Eyes at Anglers in Lewes, heard from state Sen. Gary Simpson, R-Milford. He spoke mostly about the state budget recently proposed by Gov. Jack Markell.

State revenue is $3.67 billion, with personal income taxes contributing the most. The state lottery contributes between 7 and 8

percent of revenue ($285 million).

The state spends only 98 percent of its annual revenue, and unlike many other states, it has never touched its rainy day fund.

The audience had many questions and reactions to the new medical marijuana bill.

Simpson has the largest district in the state, District 18, and will lose 8, 000 to 10, 000 constituents when his district is reduced in size in the redisricting process.
