The Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating a dwelling fire that occurred at 1:44 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 17, at a home on the 32000 block of River Road in Oak Orchard. According to a press release Chief Deputy Fire Marshal Randall Lee issued, firefighters from the Indian River, Millsboro, Lewes, Rehoboth Beach and Dagsboro fire departments encountered a two-story, wood-framed home fully engulfed in flames when they arrived at the scene. A 28-foot camper and several adjacent homes were also damaged by fire.

Lee stated the home was not equipped with working smoke detectors. Two occupants were able to escape the camper unharmed, and no other victims reported any injuries. The damages were estimated at approximately $250,000. Lee said investigators determined the fire, which was intentionally set, originated on the exterior of the home.

Fire marshals are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 800-TIP-3333 or the Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office at 856-5600.
