Volunteers needed to clear local trail

The Environmental Stewardship Program of the Division of Parks and Recreation invites volunteers to spend the morning working along the Junction and Breakwater Trail in Lewes from 8 to 11 am, Saturday, Sept. 18. The group will begin work at the Tanger Outlets Seaside trail parking lot. The work will involve hand-pulling wineberry, which invades along the trail edge and into the understory of forest habitat throughout the area.

Environmental Stewardship Program staff will assist with identifying invasive shrubs and beneficial native plants. Volunteers should wear work clothes and sneakers or boots.

Wineberry is related to raspberry and does have thorns; gloves and tools will be provided, but volunteers may bring their own.
