Investigators searching for clues, suspects

A 71-year-old woman who suffered fatal multiple stab wounds was found in her home in Donovan Smith mobile home park Thursday, Nov. 12.

Sgt. Walter Newton, Delaware State Police public information officer, said a Meals On Wheels of Lewes-Rehoboth delivery person found the victim about 10 a.m. .

The mobile home park is on Donovans Road, just west of Lewes city limits.

Newton said the victim, whose name had not been released at press time, was last seen alive during the afternoon, Wednesday, Nov. 11.

A neighbor of the victim's said she was a quiet woman who seemed a bit eccentric and kept to herself.

"Sometimes she'd go to her mailbox and open and close, open and close, open and close it several times," the woman said.

Thursday's blustery weather only intensified an already grim scene as state police homicide investigators worked unhurriedly, taking still photographs, video recording the crime scene area and interviewing those who live nearby.

"It's very scary - and getting scarier," said a woman who lives only a few doors away from the victim's home and who had bundled up against the weather to go outside and talk with her neighbor about what had happened.

Newton said no arrests have been made and investigators are continuing their probe to find out what happened.
