A wide variety of tree and shrub seedlings are available from state forest nurseries, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

"There are seedlings that work well for wildlife food and shelter, as well as for timber, shelterbelts and water conservation," said Craig Vansickle, a DNR nursery supervisor.

Several new packet combinations were introduced in 2009, including a Grouse Packet, a Wild Turkey Packet and an Evergreen Packet.

New for 2010 is a Pine/Spruce Packet consisting of 250 red(Norway) pine and 250 white spruce seedlings. The nurseries also have available a wide variety of conifer and hardwood seedlings to meet your forest needs.

The tree seedling order form and a list of available seedlings can be found on the DNR Web at www.dnr.state.mn.us/forestry/nu rseries/index.html. People may also call the nursery tree order office at 800-657-3767 or stop in at the local DNR Forestry office.

A minimum order of 500 seedlings is required. The price varies from $90 per 500 trees to $290 per 500 trees, depending on the species ordered.
