Sam Sena of Fort Sumner survived a three-way tie-breaker to win the De Baca County News football contest for the third week of the regular season.

Sena ended the week with a 10-1 record, as did Tom Mares and Mary Lou Segura, both of Fort Sumner. All three also predicted that the Foxes would rebound after last week's loss and defeat the Capitan Tigers in the tie-breaker game.

To break the tie, judges were forced to compete point totals. Sena's prediction of Foxes 21, Capitan 14 was just eight points from the actual score of 23-20 and earned him the $25 first prize.

It was Sena's second time in the money this season. He had finished second in Week 2.

Mares managed the second place money of $15 with a 28-13 prediction and a 12-point tiebreaker differential.

Segura finished third for the second-straight week and collected $10. She picked the Foxes 14-13 and had a differential of 16.

Honorable mention went to six contestants who had 9-2 records on the week: Jan Richards and John Wilson of Ro-swell, and, Benny Segura, Tommy Roybal, Ezra Sena and Grace Roybal, all of Fort Sumner.

The week's slate of games was shortened to 11 instead of the normal 12 after the St. Pius-West Mesa game was not played as scheduled.
