Seasonal flu clinics begin today in Winneshiek County.

Winneshiek County Public Health (WCPH) will host two clinics: today (Thursday, Oct. 1) from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. and tomorrow (Friday, Oct. 2) from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Winneshiek County Public Health, 305 Montgomery St., Decorah.

According to WCPH Nursing Administrator Krista Vanden Brink, the seasonal influenza shot is available for $20.

"It's or anyone who doesn't want to get the flu," she said.

Vanden Brink explained, "The seasonal flu vaccine is for the respiratory flu as opposed to the stomach flu," adding people sometimes confuse vomiting and diarrhea with having the flu.

Public Health is also offering flu mist for persons ages two to 49, who have no chronic health conditions or history of wheezing, at a cost of $25.

Vanden Brink noted WCPH does not yet have the H1N1 vaccine available.

She added WCPH will likely receive short notice when it is about to receive the H1N1 vaccine.

"We will then have to follow the priority groups, which change often, in administering the vaccine," said Vanden Brink, adding more information will follow.

For more information, call WCPH at 563-382-4662.
