Recently Walton County Commissioner Scott Brannon, along with representatives of county staff and the Walton County Economic Development Alliance (WCEDA), visited Port Panama City on a fact finding mission. The visit included a tour of the facilities, a detailed discussion about the port's operations, its future plans, and global economic market factors that affect the region and county's economy.

The port offers connections to the markets of Central America, South America, Cuba, and Mexico are links to the global economy including China which the region can reach easily. The local economy can benefit from reduced tariffs and joint efforts to create goods being imported in from other countries and assembled here then re-shipped as a finished product.

Brannon concluded, "We have to evaluate our current situation and seek opportunity to expand our local economy while improving and supporting our local businesses. We are looking to find different methods of bringing revenue into Walton County. One of the most efficient and effective ways to improving the local economy is by utilizing and expanding established businesses."
