The Second Annual Beachcomber Music Awards ceremony was held at Bluz Grill and Bar Feb. 23. A multitude of local musicians and fans descended on the popular Miramar Beach nightspot as the winners in the entertainment newspaper's poll were revealed.

The Forrest Williams Band won the Best Band category, presented by members of 2008 honorees Dread Clampitt. Williams was also named Best Singer-Songwriter, and the group performed one of the night's well-received musical sets.

Singer and pianist David Seering accepted the Best Male Vocalist trophy from fellow winner, two-time Best Female Vocalist Cheryl Jones from Jones and Company. Jones' band won the Hall of Fame award in recognition of their longtime contributions to the local music scene.

Fritz Froeschner, who gigs with numerous bands in the area, picked up the Best Guitarist prize and remarked that he was surprised he beat out fellow nominee Zack Rosicka. Froeschner's 95-year-old father was in attendance at the event.

Other winners included Billy Garrett, Best Bassist; Donnie Sundal, Best Keyboardist and Best "Homegrown" CD for "Falling Through the Cracks;" saxophonist Ike Bartley, Best Horn Player; Dread Clampitt's John Reinlie, Best Drummer; Freeport's Newfangled Theory, Best Alternative Band; Black Eyed Blonde, Best Dance Band. A special award for Best Fiddle Player was presented to Newfangled Theory's Matt Miller.

The winners were determined by mail-in ballots and nominations received by mail and on the newspaper's Facebook page.

The live performances were coordinated by Blue Lew, whose band the Funk-Tones opened the show. Other performers included Newfangled Theory and Jones and Company.

The show was hosted by Beachcomber editor Chris Manson who called the event "an incredible success. The turnout was greater than we could have expected. Obviously, there are a lot of music fans on the Emerald Coast."
