Santa Rosa Beachs Robert Mims IV, SRA, Honored as Appraisal Institutes "Volunteer of Distinction"

Robert D. Mims IV, SRA, of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla., was recognized last week as the Appraisal Institute's May "Volunteer of Distinction" for Region X.

The Appraisal Institute is the nation's largest organization of real estate appraisers; Region X includes Florida, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Mims is a member of the Appraisal Institute's Northwest Florida Chapter.

"Robert Mims is an example of the outstanding individuals who belong to the Appraisal Institute," said Leslie P. Sellers, MAI, SRA, Appraisal Institute president. "We're proud of the contributions Robert and all our members make to our organization, to the real estate valuation profession and to the communities where they work and live."

Mims has been a member of the Appraisal Institute for four years. His service to the Appraisal Institute includes serving as member of the Admissions and Designation Qualifications Committee and as a director of the Northwest Florida Chapter. Currently devoting time as a mentor for an Associate member of the Appraisal Institute, he also serves on his chapter's subcommittee to help SRA candidates navigate the path to designation.

Mims has been involved in the real estate valuation profession for more than seven years. His service to the profession includes earning certification as a real property inspector, working as a real estate agent and contributing to appraisal publications such as Appraiser News Online and Valuation Magazine. He has been certified as a residential real estate appraiser by the state of Florida and he also sits on the Emerald Coast Realtors Association's Multiple Listing Service Rules Committee. He has been president of 30-A Appraisal Group, Inc since 2006.

In his community, Mims has served as a Board of Trustee of Florida's First Judicial Circuit of Child Guardians Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping abused and neglected children. He also founded Partnering for Success, a committee under the Christian International Business Network (CIBN), which is devoted to helping its members solicit business leads. Mims is a former director of CIBN.

Mims, 47, joined the Appraisal Institute in 2006 and earned his SRA designation in 2009. He is currently enrolled at Northwest Florida State College where he will graduate this fall with a bachelor of science degree in project management.
