The Walton County Sheriffs Office (WCSO) is looking into a burglary resulting in the theft of thousands of dollars worth of jewelry in the Santa Rosa Beach area. The elderly victim, a Mobile, Ala. woman, told investigators that she was staying at a condo in Seascape Resort earlier this month.

The 73-year-old victim said the theft occurred during the first week of August. The missing jewelry items include a gold chain bracelet with diamonds, a gold wedding ring, a gold link chain, and a platinum and diamond ring which alone is valued at $27,500.

The victim has given WCSO investigators an inventory of the seven missing jewelry pieces. On two separate occasions during her stay, she told investigators that she had left her condo unlocked for 20-minute periods.

The person who committed the crime can expect to face a charge of burglary of an unoccupied dwelling, along with larceny from someone 65 years old or older.

Authorities remind the public never to leave their residence, or vehicle unlocked for any length of time. It takes a thief only a few moments to take a lifetime's savings. If anyone has information on this crime, they are asked to contact WCSO at (850) 892-8111.
