A routine traffic stop led to the discovery of a rolling meth-lab along the Walton/Okaloosa county line. At around 2 p.m. on Sept. 9, a Walton County Sheriffs Office (WCSO)deputy pulled over a Ford pick-up truck bearing a Texas license plate for a minor traffic violation on SR-20 in the Villa Tasso Community.

A WCSO K-9 sniff of the vehicle alerted authorities to a crystal-methamphet- amine lab in the cab of the truck. Driver Rhonda Jean Hopkins, 35, and passenger James Anthony Melvin, 43, were then arrested. The couple listed a Niceville address, and both were transported to the Okaloosa

County Jail in Crestview.

They face several drug related charges, including possession of listed chemicals, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of crystal-methamphetamine. Additional charges may be filed as well.

A haz-mat team from Tallahassee was called in to clean-up the highly toxic chemicals used in the manufacture of the highly addictive narcotic.
