A DeFuniak Springs man was arrested after he picked up a bag of drugs several hours after tossing it out during a traffic stop. On the night of Sept. 3, Walton County Sheriffs Lt. Michael Howell stopped a gray Chevy S-10 pick-up truck for speeding at the intersection of Dr. Roberts Drive and Oakwood Lakes Boulevard outside of DeFuniak Springs. The truck was being driven by Tony Randall Rhodes.

During the traffic stop, a

Sheriffs Office K-9 alerted a substance, but nothing was found inside the vehicle. A search was conducted at the intersection, and a small black bag that contained meth and hypodermic needles was found. The bag was left in its position under surveillance by Sheriff s Office personnel.

A few hours later, Rhodes came back looking for something in the ditch on Oakwood Lakes Boulevard, but was unsuccessful and left the area. About an hour later, Rhodes returned a second time, this time with a flashlight located the black bag with the drugs. Rhodes opened the bag, looked through it and zipped it shut. He attempted to leave the area, and was arrested by sheriffs personnel.

He was booked and bonded out on $5,000 for being in possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, and being in possession of narcotic equipment.
