Man jailed in rape of local youth

DeWitt Police last Thursday arrested a DeWitt man on charges that he sexually assaulted a 15-year-old boy in his home.

David Ikner, 37, of 203 N. Monroe St. in DeWitt, was charged with sexual assault of a minor and providing alcohol to a minor. He is being held in the Arkansas County Detention Center in lieu of $50,000 bond.

DeWitt Police Chief Josh Simpson said that Ikner was in his house with the boy last Tuesday night. They were both drinking, and the boy apparently passed out. When he woke up, Simpson said, he said he had been sexually assaulted while he was unconscious. Simpson interviewed the boy, which led to Ikner'sarrest lastThursday.

DeWitt Police also reported answering the following calls Sept. 7-12:

Sept.7 -- Police weredispatched to 407 W. Maxwell St. The officer talked with a woman who said that she comes by the residence to feed the cats while her mother is out of town and that when she got to the residence on this day, she noticed the window broken out of the back door to the home, and the dead bolt unlocked. The woman said that nothi ng appeared to be missing or tampered with.

Sept. 7 -- Police were dispatched to DeWitt City Nursing Home at 1605 S. Madison St. A resident reported that on Sept. 5 she was in her room getting ready to go to the Arkansas Travelers ballgame. She had laid down her Arkansas Razorback cell phone case, which also contained $80 in cash, on her food cart while she was getting dressed. When she turned around, the case and money were gone. The resident and staff searched the room but did not find the items. After police left the nursing home, dispatch was called and told the items had been returned to the resident's room.

Sept. 7 -- Police were dispatched to 113 S.Union St., where they talked to a man who said that he and his mother had just come home and noticed their home burglarized.The small glass window on the front door had been broken, and an Xbox and some rolled quarters and other loose change had been taken and the house had

been gone through. Evidence was collected at the scene and photos were taken.

Sept. 8 -- Police were called to Hwy. 165/N. Grandview Drive approximately 100 yards south of West Halliburton Street, where a 2002 GMC Sierra pickup was coming out of a curve on wet pavement in the southbound lane. The vehicle lost traction and went into the ditch on the west side of the highway and struck the embankment, causing the rear of the vehicle to rotate to the south. The vehicle came to rest in the ditch facing back toward the north. The driver suffered a scratch on the right cheek, but declined the offer for any medical assistance. Photos were taken and are on file at the DeWitt Police Department. Damage to the GMC was estimated at $5,000.

Sept. 9 -- Police were dispatched to 1125 S. Monroe St., where they talked with a woman who said that she left town on Aug. 30 and returned Sept.6. She found

the storm window was broken and a wooden stick was found on the ground. The inner windowpane was not broken, and the screen was found stuffed in the garbage can. Entry was not made into the residence. It was estimated that $100 damage had been done to the window and screen.

Sept. 11 -- A man said that around 6 a.m., a white pit bull bit him on the face at the residence of 502 W. Maxwell St. Apt. B. The man had bite marks to the nose and mouth area. He went to the DeWitt Hospital for treatment.

Sept. 12 -- Police were called to 1307 S. Harrison St., where a woman said that sometime between Sept. 11 and Sept. 12, someone took three bottles of medicine from her house. There was a ful 1 week's worth of Xanax, Loracet and blood pressure medicine missing. Pry marks were seen on the porch door, but nothing else was disturbed or taken during the incident.

Sept. 13 -- Police were called to the intersection of North Washington and East Halliburton streets, where a 1998 Chevrolet S14 was making a left turn off of Washington Street, and a 2000 Jeep Cherokee was coming out of the curve. The left front bumper of the Chevrolet struck the left front door of the Jeep. Photos were taken of the accident. Damage to the Chevrolet was estimated at $2,000; to the Jeep at $2,000.

Sept. 13 -- A woman called the DeWitt Police Department and said when she went outside at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Sept. 12, she noticed that someone had squirted a slippery substance all over the windows of her vehicle while it was parked in the driveway at 604 E. Eighth St. The vehicle is a green 1998 Jeep Cherokee.

Sept. 13 -- Police were called to 204 E. Second St., where they talked with a woman who said her ex-boyfriend has been harassing her after the two broke up. She said that when the man comes to pick up his child from her residence, he tells the small child thai his mother is a "bitch,'.'.and uses other epithets. She says the man has struck her in the past and 'Has"broken her vehicle windows. -- Lucille Dumond
