Tillmon West

DeWitt Era-Enterprise of DeWitt, Arkansas

Tillmon West, 93, of DeWitt, died Sept. 14. He was born March 6, 1916, to Rufus and Mathel Poston West near St. Charles. He attended Belleview School and was a member of Belleview Missionary Baptist Church. During World War II, he served three years in the Fourth Infantry Division's 20th Field Artillery. From the D-Day Invasion to VE Day, those soldiers were together and still gather for reunions. Following Army service, he worked at farming and for a wholesale grocery. He married Ellen Hillman in 1945 at Bayou Meto United Methodist Church, of which he was a loyal member. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lloyd West and Willie West; and one sister, Nellie Cunningham.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Ellen West; his children, Tim M. West and his wife, Joann, of Pine Bluff, Trudy W. Lynch and her husband, Jeff, of Houston, TX, and Larry T. West and his wife, Judy, of Mountain Home; grandchildren, Stephanie Goodman and her husband, Ken, of Ozark, MO, Cindy Smith and her husband, Jason, of Rison, AllisonZimmerandherhusband, Brice, of Grapevine, TX, Cy Cox and his wife, Jo Ann, of DeWitt, Crissy Baker of Atlanta, GA, and Matthew Baker and Joclyn Lynch of Houston.TX; and greatgrandchildren, Rachel, Samantha and Graham Goodman, Weston, Micah and Landon Smith, Brock and Braylee Zimmer and Nathaniel Cox.

Funeral services will be held Sept. 17at2p.m.inEssexFuneral Home Chapel with Rev. David Bush officiating. Burial will be in Bayou Meto Cemetery with Essex Funeral Home of DeWitt in charge.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Cunningham, Charles Cunningham, Billy West, L.C. West, William West, Roy West, Bobby West and Kenny West.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sept. 16 at the funeral home.
