East Bernard grad honored by UIL

East Bernard graduate and Bellville volleyball and tennis coach and women's coordinator Susan Brewer has been recognized as one of the 2010 UIL Sponsor Excellence Award winners.

These winners were selected by a panel of judges in the area of music, athletics and academics from nominations submitted by school

principals and superintendents across the state. Each winner will receive $1,000 and a distinctive trophy from the UIL in recognition of outstanding

achievements through inter-scholastic competition.

For 34 years, Brewer has served as both head volleyball and tennis coach at Bellville High School.

In volleyball, Brewer has more than 700 career wins and nine state championships in her 14 state tournament appearances.

She has also guided Bellville High to numerous state tennis trips.

More than 20 of her former volleyball and tennis players have followed her footsteps into the coaching profession, while 40 others have become teachers.

Brewer will be recognized and installed into the Bellville Hall of Fame on May 16.
