Storm prep session June 6

The Emergency Management Offices of the Cities of El Campo, Wharton and Wharton County will present a Hurricane Preparedness Seminar for all area residens.

Featured speakers include the Director of the National Hurricane Center: Bill Read of Miami, Fla.

The seminar is from 11 am to 1 pm. Monday, June 6, at the Wharton Civic Center.

Bring your own lunch and drink, and feel free to come and go.

Read is just back from a Hurricane Preparedness tour of the East Coast including Massachusetts, Maryland, North Carolina, Georgia and Florida. Earlier, he toured the Caribbean talking on the same topics.

Gene Hafele, meteorolo-gist-in-charge of the Houston/Galveston office of the National Weather Service, will also speak on local effects that could be expected if a tropical system were to strike near Wharton County

Local Emergency Management Coordinators Jim Cooper of the city of Wharton, Jimmy George of the city of El Campo and Andy Kirkland of Wharton County will be available to answer questions regarding local evacuation decisions, evacuation routes, re-entry into evacuated areas, dissemination of emergency information and other topics of interest at the local level.
