A series of different criminal violations taking place in the East Bernard area are being investigated by the Wharton County Sheriff's Office.

The list includes a pair of burglaries involving East Bernard ISD buildings.

The first was called in from the high school on Aug. 6. The report states that someone entered the library located between the high school and elementary school sometime during the night of Aug. 5. The school district reported a DVD-VCR unit and an LCD projector were both missing and there was damage to a window. The intruder also reportedly entered the librarian's office and while trashing the room nothing was reported missing.

The second burglary was called in Aug. 10 from the district's maintenance shop at the corner of Urbanec and College Streets. The break-in took place during a vacation break from Aug. 2 to the day it was reported. Missing from the building was a Troy-bilt gas generator, $1,200; a Skil circular saw, $150 and a Milwaukee Sawz-All, $400.

"We currently are investigating these as separate incidents," WCSO Lt. Danny Marek said.

A third break-in was reported from the East Bernard Little League at 128 Koym Street and was called in on Aug. 12 and reportedly took place sometime Aug. 3-4. The report says forcible entry was gained by prying open the front door of the concession stand.

"There were candy and chips scattered around the floor like the intruder was looking for something else," Marek said. "They were missing a 40-watt amplifier that is used by the league for its PA system. These kinds of burglaries are hard to take because all the work is done by volunteers so the whole community loses."

The Sheriff's Office has also received reports of 12 incidents of mailboxes being significantly damaged or destroyed over the past several days.

Incidents were reported from the 15000, 16000 and 19000 blocks of County Road 268, the 15000 block of CR 266; the 14000 and 15000 block of CR 272 and 2000 block of CR 201.

"Anyone with information regarding either burglaries or the vandalism should contact Sgt. Investigator Jim Staude by calling the office at 532-1550," Marek said. "Or you can call Crimestoppers."

You can contact the West Wharton County Crime Stoppers by phoning 979-543-TTPS (543-8477). Callers to Crime Stoppers do not have to give their names to qualify for a reward: They're given a code number, and no tapes or Caller ID. are used.
