Five incumbent office holders have filed for a place on the Democratic Party ballot for the March 2 primary.

Wharton County Democratic Party Chairman Joe King reports that County Clerk Sandy Sanders, District Clerk Denice Malota, County Treasurer Donna Kocurek, Precinct 4 Commissioner Jimmy Kainer and Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Cindy Kubicek have all turned in the paperwork necessary to be listed on the ballot.

"We've got a few other people who have indicated they plan to run in the Democratic Primary but have not filed their paperwork," King said.

In an update on the Republican Primary, County Party Chair Ted Tarver reported no new candidates after a flurry of early filings.

The list of those who have filed include incumbent office holders Precinct 2 Commissioner Chris King, Judge 329th Judicial District Court Randy Clapp, Justice of the Peace Precinct 1 Jeanette Krenek and Justice of the Peace Precinct 3 Dennis Ko-renek. Non-incumbents filing for the primary during the first week were County Judge candidates Phillip Spenrath and Mickey Reynolds and District Clerk candidate Nerissa House.

The upcoming March 2 primaries are run by political parties, who select the candidates who will face off in the November 2010 General Election. Filing for spots on the ballot has already started.

Wharton County Election Administrator Judy Owens is reminding candidates that for the primary election, candidates file with their respective party chairman and not with the county. Democratic candidates can reach Party Chairman King by calling 979-453-0821. Republican candidates should contact Party Chairman Tarver by calling 281-615-2545.
