Entering Tuesday's contest in Edgewood, Sunnyvale and the Bulldogs were both on different ends of the spectrum. Edgewood has been streaking as of late entering the contest with a 4-1 district record. Sunnyvale, on the other hand, has been slipping with their 2-3 record in divisional games. Though Sunnyvale has not been one of the weakest opponents of the district, their only wins have come from less ranked teams not true contenders. They were going to try and change that versus Edgewood.

The Bulldogs were on their game from the get go, shooting their most efficient game of the season. They backed off of their long three-point shots and focused more on getting high percentage scoring. This worked extremely well. As a team they shot a shade under 50% from the field, with four players getting into double figures. Sunnyvale could not find their range from the field early leaving them in a big hole after the first quarter. Edgewood was up 22-6.

Even though their opponents received more turnovers than the Lady Dogs, Edgewood continued to control the boards offensively and defensively. Once Sunnyvale missed a shot, the girls began to put on the pressure in fast breaks leading to assists. Even when Edgewood did miss a shot, they were rewarded with 16 offensive rebounds for the contest giving them a few second chances. Their defense, however, stopped Sunnyvale dead in their tracks. The girls pitched a shutout in the second quarter as they went on to score 13, giving them the huge halftime lead 35-6.

The girls could not keep Sunnyvale from scoring forever, though, as some halftime pep talks got their opponent's offense back. Edgewood kept their shooting percentage high and allowed some great passing to create points. Trisha McDaniel, Micaela Brown, Chandler Short, and S'Andra Govan all kept the offense flowing and kept oppressing Sunnyvale's game. Their opponents walked away with 10 points in the third quarter, but Edgewood had 14. With only a quarter left, the Lady Dogs were on top 49-16.

With the game basically over, the girls let some substitutes get in on the action, and even they played pretty evenly with the Sunnyvale starters. The other team was finally able to score more than Edgewood within a quarter by a count of 11-7, but with the game already over, it seemed meaningless. Edgewood got their fifth district win with a score of 56-27.

Trisha McDaniel led the team in scoring with 14 points and completed a double-double with her 10 rebounds. For the game, she also had two assists and three steals. Micaela Brown also received a double-double with her 11 points and 10 rebounds. She completed the contest with three assists and four steals as well. Chandler Short had 10 points, four rebounds, seven assists, and two steals, and S'Andra Govan had 10 points, one rebound, and two assists. Allie Orrick had four assists and five steals for her outing.

This win keeps Edgewood tied for second place in district with their 5-1 record, 12-11 overall. Scurry-Rosser still leads the league with their 6-0 record, but they have been barely sliding by opponents. It is unlikely that they will end district play undefeated. \ Edgewood and Kerens are both 5-1 in district games, and they will meet up on Friday, Jan. 15, to leave someone with an outright second place standing. Malakoff remains in fourth place with a 4-2 record, and everyone else in district remains under .500.
