Responsibility ---that is the word you'll be hearing from the students in the hallways and classrooms at West Central Humboldt Elementary School. The month of September will be devoted to learning the character trait - responsibility. Students will learn that responsibility is doing what is expected of you. It is taking care of the things that have been put in your care. If you are a responsible person, other people know they can count on you to follow through on what you start. They know you will do what you've agreed to do.

Students will also learn that a person who is responsible accepts the results of their actions. They think ahead, figure out how an action might affect themselves and other people and choose to do what will be best for everyone. Responsible people don't make excuses or blame others for their behavior.

You act responsibly when you:

Don't whine about being sent to bed early because you didn't clean your room.

Wait your turn on the slide, so you won't hurt the person going down before you.

Work hard to clean up your classroom now, so you'll be able to go out for recess later.

Keep your promise to do your homework right after school, even when your parents aren't there to remind you.
