Hidalgo County Democratic board votes in support of Civil Rights in Arizona

In what has become a crucial political and potentially constitutional national debate about civil rights in Arizona, the Hidalgo Country Democratic Party board showed its support for a resolution which was adopted unanimously by the Democratic Party of New Mexico.

Chairman Robert C. Parra and Vice-Chair, Neomi Martinez-Parra cast their vote in favor of the motion. The declaration states that "Whereas New Mexicans with a proud tradition of diversity. will no longer have the liberty to travel freely within Arizona solely using their drivers' licenses for identification as a result of Governor Brewer and the legislature of Arizpna having enacted legislation that clearly violates civil rights. Be it resolved that the Democratic Party of New Mexico supports the efforts of President Obama and Governor Richardson to protect the civil rights of ALL people within our Nation's border."

Both Robert C. Parra and Neomi Martinez-Parra attended the Democratic State Central Committee Spring Meeting on Saturday April 24 held in Las Cruces.

The meeting was called by State Chairman, Javier M. Gonzales, with reports from various State Party committees: credentials, Judicial, Rules, Platforms & Resolutions, Budget and Treasury, and DNC.

Several state representatives and state candidates were also present in this gathering.

Chairman Robert C. Parra stressed the importance of maintaining a unified Democratic-Party here in Hidalgo County and urges all Hidalgo County Democrats to become involved with the County Party.
