Jacque Davenport is Outstanding New Mexico Woman from Animas

Jacque Davenport was named one of twenty Outstanding Women in New Mexico May 7, 2010 in Albuquerque. One hundred women from around the state were nominated and twenty were selected based on their qualities and commitment to serving their families, community, and state. Governor Richardson spoke at the Awards Ceremony as well as Lt. Governor Diane Denish. Margaret Moses Branch was given a lifetime Achievement Award for her legal work for women who were take advantage of by pharmaceutical, environmental and medical manufacturing firms winning large monetary awards for her women clients. Two women of the twenty were also elected to the New Mexico Women's Hall of Fame. Each of the twenty finalists received a doll specially designed for the occasion, a rose, and a certificate.

Ms. Davenport, an educator from Animas High School was selected for her dedication to student excellence and preparing students to be good citizens. During her 20-year career, she has taken students to Washington DC to take a Close-up look at government and to Europe to experience History. She started the successful Mock Trial program at Animas and has had students participate in the National History Day and Mock Congressional Hearing. Davenport registers seniors to vote and requires them to go to School board meetings and write public officials about any concerns they may have all in preparation for becoming an active citizen of the United States.
