A memorial mass will be held at 10 A.M. on Saturday May 29th, 2010 at St. Josephs Catholic Church for Antonio Alvarez, Jr. The internment of his ashes will be at Shakespeare Cementary immediately after the service.

Antonio Flores Alvarez passed away peacefully, with his family at his side on March 17, 2010 in Montebello, California. "Quinco" was born pn June 28, 1947 in Lordsburg, New Mexico, son of Antonio and Evangelina Alvarez. He and his loving wife of 43 years, Helen (Palomarez) moved to Pico Rivera, California in 1967 and raised their 3 surviving daughters, Mary Linda (Terry) Singleton, Pico Rivera; Sylvia Jean, Lomita, California and Antonia Evangelina (Augustine) Iglesias, Pico Rivera.

Tony loved his hometown of Lordsburg where he grew up playing in his neighborhood known as "Perros Bravos". He took pride in being a Maverick and returned throughout the years to cheer them on.

Tony was a talented trumpet player and had a life long love of music, especially a good mariachi group. Hunting and fishing were always part of his life and gave him the peace and tranquility of nature. Last year that "one more time" to go on the scout and hunt was much harder, but the adventure and camaraderie was something he truly enjoyed. He would tell you where and how each and every blister was made.

Tony was happiest when surrounded by family, especially at gatherings and holidays. His biggest joys were his granddaughter, Deanna Marie Singleton grandsons Nicholas and Brandon Iglesias. One of his biggest accomplishments was volunteering as a baseball coach for the last 15 years and serving as T-Ball commissioner. He was recognized for those contributions when the baseball field was named in his honor on March 15, 2010.

Tony is preceded in death by his father, Antonio Alvarez, and is survived by his mother, Evangelina. Also surviving Tony are his brothers and sisters, Alice (Edmund) Sanchez, Lupe (Dennis) Efaw, Tucson, Arizona; Rachel (Tom) Martin, Bakersfield, California; Benny (Clara), Tucson, Arizona; Jaime (Martha), Sierra Vista, Arizona; Ernie (Juanita) Bellflower, California; Sally (Carlos) Guzman, Tucson, Arizona; Pauline (Danny) Gomez and many nieces and nephews.

With a beautiful spirit and incredible integrity and compassion reflected in his every action, Tony was quick to help, comfort, and lend a hand to his family and friends. Unwavering in his ability to see the good and potential in people, he could brighten a room and soothe an aching heart. His concern was about others, always grateful for the abundant blessings in his life. Tony was a kind and generous man, a loving brother, husband, father and grandfather. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
