The severe flooding in 2006, which galvanized Baker County to begin searching for long-term solutions, revisited Pine Valley this past June. At that time, the Powder Basin Watershed Council was just beginning work on a comprehensive plan to address long-term flooding problems.

Demeter Design of Nehalem, Oregon, an environmental resource information company, working for the Council, finished collecting data along Pine Creek in April. The flood, besides washing out two bridges, changed most of the Valley Reach of the stream, making the data that had just been collected out of date. Demeter will resurvey the Valley Reach of Pine Creek in September and October. The survey crew will contact landowners along the creek who gave permission last spring for the survey. The data will be shared with the public this winter as the council leads a series of workshops to develop a long-term management plan for Pine Creek.

Anyone with questions or concerns should call Jim Young or Bruce Lindley, who is also on the Pine Creek subcommittee. Young can be reached at 541-742-2428; Bruce Lindley can be reached at 541-742-2641.
