Orlando JCC receives 12 national awards

The Jewish Community Center of Greater Orlando is proud to announce that it will receive 12 national awards from the JCC Association at the JCCs of North America biennial conference held May 2-5 in Atlanta. Nearly 1,000 people from the U.S., Canada, Israel, Europe and Latin America are expected to attend the meeting of JCC leaders and volunteers. Both the Roth JCC in Maitland and the new Jack and Lee Rosen campus in Southwest Orlando received awards.

The Rosen campus received programming awards for its grand opening celebration (Aileen Schaked, Lilly Robbins, Bonnie Rayman and all Rosen campus staff); its Health Fair and Green Market (Debbie Hoffman, Candace Martin and Bonnie Rayman) and Theatre South (Hillary Brook).

The Roth campus in Maitland received programming awards for its production of JCC Idol (Loren London, David Wayneand Harriet Weiss); KidzArt (Bridget Hawley, Melissa Kohn, Shannon Nanus and Karen Duncan); its senior trip to Israel for older adults (Claire Mercer and Harriet Weiss); Shayna's Village (Karen Duncan); its summer camp "Design Your Own Camp" program (Tara Harris and Julie Varkonyi) and Super Sweet Mitzvah Expo (Tara Harris and Julie Varkonyi).

The JCC will also receive communications, marketing and public relations awards for its JCC Weekend Update (Sheli Carr and Amy Schwartz); the marketing plan for the launch of the Rosen campus (Mark Fried, Amy Schwartz and Mary Deatrick); and Noah's Ark Early Childhood Learning Center print collateral (Mark Fried and Amy Schwartz).

In addition to those awards, the JCC of Greater Orlando's preschool program at the Richard S. Adler Early Childhood Learning Center was named Orlando's Best Preschool for 2009 in the Nickelodeon Parents' Pick Awards. It was also named Best Childcare Center by the Orlando Mom's Guide, and has earned national accreditation from the National Accreditation Commission for Early Care and Education Programs (Maitland campus).

Every two years at its convention, JCC Association Awards are given in two main areas: Program and Practice Awards, as well as awards in Communications, Marketing and Public Relations. Program and Practice Awards honor outstanding work in the following categories: Jewish living and learning, leadership development, benchmarking exemplars, membership development, planning, professional development, programs and services, and financial resource development. Innovative Program and Practice Awards are presented to JCCs that develop new and creative programs and services. Exemplary Program and Practice Awards recognize a groundbreaking service model on which other JCCs may base future programming. Recognition Certificates are presented to JCCs that submit entries and set a standard of excellence for the development and presentation of programs in their local communities.

JCC Association's Marketing and Communications Awards honor exceptional efforts in their field. Entries are submitted by JCCs according to budget size. The many different categories cover communications efforts in varied media forms, the development of marketing plans, JCC brand, with a new emphasis on social media.
