On Sept. 19 at 11 a.m. at the Hilton Orlando, the Orlando chapter of the Central Florida region of Hadassah will honor three women with its annual Hadassah National Leadership Award. The award pays tribute to members whose leadership accomplishments within Hadassah and civic, educational and cultural organizations reflect Hadassah's dedication to the principles of the volunteer ethic. Award recipients are selected by their peers and represent a wide range of achievements.

This year, the Sabra group will honor Rhonda Levin Des Islets; the Rishona-Chaverot group will honor Rita Pine; and the Orlando chapter honoree will be Gloria New-burger.

Rita Pine, a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., along with her late husband, Howard, and their family, relocated to Orlando in 1950. The family lived in Palomar for many years. Pine became active in B'nai B'rith as a vice president when there was a chapter in Orlando, and in 1954 the Pines became one of the founding families of Temple Israel.

Throughout the years, she has been on many committees for both Temple Israel Sisterhood and Hadassah. She developed, and continues to maintain after more than 30 years, the ongoing Hadassah project of greeting cards for the Rishona-Chaverot group. She continues to be active, involved, and a dedicated member--always ready to help. Although this is her primary interest and responsibility, Pine also loves to play bridge, and dance. She has a daughter, Hillary, and a son Clifford, two granddaughters, and four great-grandchildren. Hadassah members say, "Rita is loved by her many friends, and well deserves this honor bestowed upon her."

"Leadership often means developing vision, taking risks, staying positive and focused while carrying through with projects," said Nancy Falchuk, national president of Hadassah. "Anyone who has dared to be a leader understands the challenges. How delighted we are to welcome you into a select group of women who have realized their leadership potential through Hadassah."

The couvert for the luncheon is $36 per person. For more information, or to RSVP, contact Susan Livingstone at 321-352-3003.
