Jewish children in Orlando will soon be eligible to receive free, age-appropriate Jewish-content books monthly. Any Jewish child from 6 months to 5 1/2 years can be enrolled to receive the books in the mail.

"There's no catch, no hidden agenda; the books are free," says Ian Robinson, president at the Jewish Federation of Greater Orlando. "These are beautiful books that will enhance the Jewish life of any young family."

It's all part of The PJ Library, a national program created by the Harold Grinspoon Foundation in Massachusetts and implemented in partnership with 125 communities throughout the United States and Canada. More than 60,000 books are mailed each month. "PJ" stands for pajamas. PJ Library books turn snuggly bedtime moments into Jewish moments.

The books are beautifully illustrated and are about Jewish holidays, values and folk tales says a PJ Library official. The books come with reading guides to help parents discuss and do activities with their children around the themes found in the books.

"The Harold Grinspoon Foundation pays about 60 percent of the cost of this amazing program," says Hope Kramer, Federation's CEO. "In addition, the Federation received a grant from the Appelbaum Foundation in Detroit that added to the generosity of local donors to allow the Jewish Federation to bring this program to Orlando. We added this incredible new initiative to our list of Federation Jewish outreach and identity programs because it is proven to connect young families to the Jewish community at large. You don't have to be a member of a synagogue or any Jewish organization to get PJ Library books. This is for everyone--members, nonmembers, two Jewish parents, single parents or interfaith couples."

"Watch your mailbox in the coming months for a sample PJ Library book and information on how to signup," says a PJ official. "If you don't have children 6 months to 5 1/2 years old, be sure to tell a friend or neighbor who would benefit from this gift of history and heritage."
