Kyle Public Library offers computer training to job seekers

Almost all employers now require that their em-ployees have some degree of computer literacy, and looking for a job now involves having an email account and searching online sites. Many Texans have limited computer knowledge, which hurts their chances in the job market. As the national and state economies struggle, it is more important than ever that job applicants be computer literate and able to take advantage of online job-searching resources.
In response to this need, the Kyle Community Library will host a series of five classes that aim to address workforce development in the Kyle community. Classes will be open to the public and will focus on two areas: 1) general computer literacy, including computer, internet, and email basics, and 2) skills specific to job searching and applying for work online. Both of these skill sets have been proven effective in finding and keeping a
job.
All classes will be held in the Kyle Community Library, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., starting Tuesday, Jan. 18 and ending the following Monday, Jan. 24. (No classes will be held on the weekend.)
The classes are made possible by the Digital Literacy Corps, a program implemented by the Central Texas Library System (CTLS) in partnership with 28 public libraries in central Texas. The goal of the DLC is to achieve a stronger Texas workforce through resource sharing and community empowerment: CTLS trains instructors and coordinates classes; libraries provide the space to hold classes and community outreach; and
a select group of instructors from 10 central Texas cities and towns teach classes. Teresa Montalvo, a senior staff member and experienced computer instructor at the Kyle Community Library, underwent a rigorous application and screening process before being selected.
To sign up for classes or to request more information, please stop by the Kyle Community Library at 409 W. Blanco St., or call the library at 512-268-7411. Please note that space in the classes will be limited.
