The repaying of Granite Street was completed last week though it remains for lines to be painted on the road.

The city has completed a new water line along Russell Road, the last remaining dirt street in the city. Once the surface is dry and preparatory work completed, the road will be paved.

Some of the prep work is being done by the city, but that requiring more than can be done with city equipment is being contracted out.

City Manager Bill Stankiewicz said that when Russell Road is paved, Burden Drive should also be paved.

Burden Drive is a narrow, one-way street off Oak Street. The street has been paved before, but is in such poor condition that it will also need prep work before it can be resurfaced.

More streets are being scheduled for resurfacing.

The paving and resurfacT ing is being funded by SPLOST, or Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax revenue.

The actual paving is being conducted by Troup County.

This means the paving must be done on the county's schedule, but Stankiewicz noted that "by using the county we are really stretching our dollars."
