The Luthersville City Council has approved the request of Dillon Murphy to construct an Eagle Scout project in the city.

Dillon Murphy, 15, is the son of Jenny Phillips and the grandson of Johnny and Karey Murphy. He is a student at Greenville High School.

Murphy's Eagle Scout project involves the construction and installation of swings for children and adults near the tennis courts at Luthersville City Hall.

"We have always been a very child-oriented family, and so has he," said Karey Murphy in explaining why the specific project was selected.

The project will cost an estimated $5,000.

MURPHY will have to create a list of needed supplies. He will write letters to various retail businesses in an effort to get needed items donated.

But it that effort falls short, he will have to solicit funds to purchase needed materials.

Anyone who would like to contribute money to the project, can send donations to: Dillon Murphy, 499 Calhoun Murphy Road, Grantville, GA 30220.

Murphy will have to organize his Scout Troop in helping construct the project.

Murphy anticipates actually beginning the project by October 1.

EAGLE Scout, created in 1911, is the highest rank attainable by a Boy Scout.

To become an Eagle Scout, a Boy Scout must earn at least 21 merit badges and complete an extensive service project that he plans, organizes, leads and manages. He then must take part in a Scoutmaster conference and complete an Eagle Scout board of review.

Only about two percent of Boy Scouts earn Eagle Scout rank.
