The Hogansville Police Department initiated a series of driver checkpoints last weekend that resulted in six DUI arrests.

Police Chief Moses Ector said the checkpoints were all conducted in the downtown area, instead of near the interstate.

Ector said the frequency of driver checkpoints will increase as the Holiday Season draws near. This is being done to both discourage people from drinking and driving, and to catch those that insist on drinking and driving.

"We are upgrading our traffic enforcement," Ector said.

Hogansville police officers will also be seeking to interdict drug activity during the driver checkpoints.
