Police continue investigation into Carolina Forest car crash

CopyState police are continuing to investigate a fatal car wreck that killed a Lake Wylie man in Carolina Forest over the weekend.
The Horry County Coroner's Office identified the victim as John Anthony Pruitt, 20.
Pruitt died after his vehicle flipped into a ditch causing him to drown, the coroner's office said.
Specifics about what happened in the wreck remained sketchy as of press time.
According to the S.C. Highway Patrol, the accident occurred Saturday at about 3:50 a.m., near the entrance to Ridgewood Plantation.
Lance Cpl. Bob Beres, a spokesman with the Highway Patrol, said the wreck occurred on Tibwin Drive close to Gardner Lacy Road.
Beres said the victim's 2003 green Chevrolet Trailblazer was heading north on Tibwin Drive toward Gardner Lacy Road when he ran off the right side of the roadway.
The victim's vehicle then struck a tree and overturned. There were no passengers in the vehicle and Pruitt was wearing a seatbelt, Beres said.
No further details have been released.
"That is all the information we have at this time," Beres said, who added that the investigation is continuing.
Saturday's crash was the second fatal wreck on Gardner Lacy Road this year.
John Daniel Pontus, 21, was killed June 6. That wreck happened between U.S. 501 and Postal Way at about 12:30 a.m.
In that incident, Pontus' truck ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected and then ran off the left side of the road, according to the Highway Patrol.
The truck crashed into another vehicle and some construction equipment. Pontus wasn't wearing a seatbelt, the Highway Patrol said.
