The OSU Oklahoma Area Health Education Center, The Southeast Area Health Education Center located at Carl Albert College, Peachtree Hospice, Kiamichi

Technology Centers, My favorite Things Rowers and Gifts, and Body Works fitness andRehabilitation will conduct a free cancer survivorship education session at CASC Ballroom, 1507 South McKenna, Poteau, OK.

This is the one of several two-hour cancer survivorship education sessions tobeoffered throughout rural Oklahomafor the next three years.

The sessions are based on the LIVESTRONG â„¢ materials created by the Lance Armstrong Foundation

The sessions will provide important and helpful information and resources to people who have been diagnosed with cancer including friends, family members and others who are impacted by their cancer.

"Many people when they are diagnosed with cancer naturally begin to have questions including how the cancer will impact their health, howto find the best treatments, how to explain the disease to their children, what financial preparations should be made and ways to deal with themany emotions that naturally surface, " said Toni Hart, Program Manager.

The sessions focus on three primary questions people affected by cancer should ask theirphysicians: l)Whatismy main problem? 2) What do I need to do? and 3) Why is it important for me to do this?. The sessions not only provide helpful information and resources but provide a system for recording information and keeping everything organized.

Partnering with the Oklahoma Area Health Education Centers to make these sessions possible are SE Area Health Education Center Cancer Survivors in Oklahoma, Oklahoma Comprehensive Cancer Network, Cherokee Nation, INTEGRIS, The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, OU Cancer Center, and OSU Center for Rural Health.To register for the free September 11th session or for more information, call 918-647-8611.
