Peter C. Collier

Geologist, 62

A memorial service is scheduled for Sept. 25, 7 p.m., at McDonald's Chapel in Burney for Peter C. Collier. Family and friends will officiate.

Mr. Collier, 62, of Burney died Aug. 27, 2009, at Mayers Memorial Hospital.

He was born Oct. 16, 1946, in Newburyport, Massachusetts, and moved to Shasta County in 2006 from Sacramento. He was a geologist for the State of California.

Mr. Collier graduated from San Marcos High School in Santa Barbara, Calif., in 1964.

After serving his country in the Army, he returned to college and graduated from the University of California, Riverside, with a bachelors of science degree in geology in 1972.

After graduation, he worked as a geothermal researcher with the University of California, Riverside.

In 1988, he moved to Sacramento and worked for 15 years with the State of California Department of Toxic Substances Control as a geologist.

He met his soul mate, Fran Anderson, in 1988 and they started dating in 1995. They were married Feb. 7, 2003, in Sacramento with many family and friends by their side. Through this union, Peter was blessed with a stepson, two stepdaughters and three step-grandchildren.

Though the time Pete and Fran had together was unexpectedly shortened, all who knew and saw them could se and feel the everlasting love that they had for one another.

Peter was an avid hunter, fisherman and supported wildlife conservation and education.

Through the years, he had many dogs that he loved training, playing with and sharing the outdoors with.

He also loved sailing, volleyball, garage sales, taking pictures, watching football, researching technology and finding opals.

He is survived by his wife Frances of Burney, father Charles Collier of Santa Barbara, brother Matt and his wife Roberta Collier of Elk Grove, Calif., niece Marisa Collier, stepdaughters and stepson Stacey and Emmitt Jolly of Shaker Heights, Ohio, and Michelle Anderson of Carmichael, Calif., step-grandchildren Sedona and Ezaiyah Jolly, Caleb Dixon and numerous other loving relatives, colleagues and friends.
