Steps taken to open marijuana dispensary in Burney

A Redding man has plans to open a medical marijuana dispensary to the west of the Burney Theatre deputies here learned.

The Shasta County sheriff's office was alerted by a caller that someone had a marijuana plant on the sidewalk in front of 37016 Main Street.

Deputies checked out the call, but saw the plant was plastic and not in violation of any law.

During the investigation, deputies learned Christopher P. Staffin of Redding is planning to open the dispensary, said Lt. Forrest Bartell of the sheriff's office Burney substation.

Jeffrey H. Phinney purchased the buildings from Marilyn Toler on Nov. 7, 2007, and has been renovating them for occupancy.
