Targhee Women donate $6,000 to area charities

ISLAND PARK - Targhee Women's Club donated $6,000 to nine area organizations this week. Most of the funds were raised in the group's annual August auction, which netted close to $4,700 this year.

Donations are as follows: $1,400 to the After School Program, $1,000 to the Community Food Bank headquartered in Ashton and serving the Island Park and Ashton areas;

$1,000 to Fremont County Search and Rescue; $600 to the Island Park Medical Clinic for a blood testing machine; $500 to the Haunts of Harriman Halloween party at Harriman State Park; $500 to Island Park Ambulance; $500 to John Sack Cabin 's repair fund; $300 to a scholarship for an Island Park youth to participate in the Mountain Strings workshop at Harriman State Park, and $200 to the Targhee Women's Club Winter Edition's Christmas tree decorating project for the Island Park Christmas Festival.

Targhee Women's Club has 97 members and membership is $10 a year and open to all women. They meet at 11:30 a.m. for lunch and an entertaining or educational program twice monthly from June through September at the Lodgepole Grill at Phillips Lodge. The club's Winter Edition meets for lunch at noon once a month October through May at a different restaurant each time.

The next meeting is at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 16 at the Lodgepole Grill. It's the club's annual birthday party and officer installation.
