A 27-year-old Jonesville man died Sunday at Rapides Regional Medical Center from injuries he sustained in a head-on collision in LaSalle Parish early Thursday morning.

Jarrett Davis Barton, 27, of Jonesville, the son of Judge Kathy Johnson of Jonesville and Parole and Probation Officer Tommy Barton of Jena, was involved in the accident around 8:30 a.m., Thursday, March 11, on LA 28 in lower LaSalle Parish.

Barton was driving a 1992 Ford pickup truck, which collided head-on with a 1996 Peterbilt 18-wheeler, driven by Mark Daniels, 43, of Wisner.

State Police said Barton was westbound on LA 28 when he drifted across the center line and hit the eastbound Peterbilt. The accident happened just west of the intersection of U.S. 84 and LA 28, just inside LaSalle Parish, officials said.

Officers said Barton was not wearing his seatbelt and sustained life-threatening injuries in the accident. He was transported to Rapides Regional Medical Center where he underwent surgery for several problems on Thursday.

Daniels was wearing his seatbelt and suffered moderate injuries, officers said. He was transported to Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria.

Services for Jarrett Davis Barton were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 16, at the First Baptist Church in Jonesville. (A complete obit can be found on the obituary page inside this issue.)
