Four sentenced on drug charges

Four people were sentenced on drug charges during a session of 28th Judicial District Court held in and for the Parish of LaSalle last Friday.

The Honorable Christopher Peters, District Judge, presided at the court session and District Attorney J. Reed Walters and assistants were at their regular posts during the session.

Charles E. Reese, Jr. pled guilty to an amended charge of possession of marijuana, first offense, and was fined $500, and cost and was to serve 30 days in jail.

Mary B. Dabbs was sentenced to five years at hard labor for possession of meth-amphetamine. Four years were suspended and she was placed on five years supervised probation. She is to pay a fine of $1,000 plus cost and fine is to be paid within first six months of her release. She was also ordered to attend at least one N/A meeting a week.

Kimberly D. Talbert was sentenced to serve five years at hard labor for possession of CDS IV, Alprozolam. Four years were suspended and she was placed on five years supervised probation and ordered to pay a fine of $1,000 plus cost. Fine is to be paid within first six months of probation. She is to attend at least one N/A meeting a week.

David O. Hatten was sentenced to serve five years at hard labor for possession of CDS and/or legend drug without prescription. Four years were suspended and he was placed on five years supervised probation. He is to pay a fine of $1,000 plus cost within first 6 months after his release. He is to attend at least one N/A meeting a week. The time is to run consecutive with any time he is serving now and he was given credit for time served on this charge only. The State will not bill him as a habitual offender.

Denard L. Ridgley was not present for trial on a charge of aggravated battery because of being held at the Allen Correctional Center and the jury trial was reset for June 21.

Catrina Wallace was in Court for trial on a charge of distribution of cocaine, three counts. A state witness was not available for the trial and it was reset for August 23, 2010.

Samuel Howard, III, was scheduled for trial on charges of distribution of CDS II, cocaine, three counts. D.A. Walters requested a continuance because a state witness was unavailable for the trial. The case was reset for jury trial on Sept. 27.

Michael David Crooks pled not guilty to conspiring to introduce contraband into correctional institution and jury trial was set for October 25.
