Girls Are 6-0, Boys 3-3 Play At Home January 5th

The South Barber Lady Chieftains head into the winter break with a perfect 6-0 record after an easy win over Pretty Prairie last week, while the Chieftain men have an even 3-3 record after dropping a game to the state-ranked Bulldog men.

Both teams are back in action January 5 when they host Norwich and will also play at home Jan. 8 against Skyline.

Girls Win Big

Coach Steve Roberts and his Lady Chieftains raced out to a 20-2 first quarter lead over Pretty Prairie on Dec. 15 and maintained a comfortable lead the remainder of the contest on their way to a 48-23 win. The girls did it on defense as they forced 37 turnovers, and everybody saw playing time.

Sara Molz led the scoring with 17 points along with 4 steals and 4 assists, while Erin Merklein was also in double figures with 11 points and pulled down 7 rebounds. Dm Hitchcock had a good night from the outside and scored 7 points followed by Racheal Watts with 5 points and 7 rebounds. Naicee Gugelmeyer and Jessica Daughhetee added 4 points each. Playing well but not scoring were Amee Stapleton and Tanner Thur-man. Also getting playing time were AH Thurman, Brooke Murphy, Clarissa Murphy, Keeli Hostetler, Morgan Koblitz and Mikala Gillig. Chieftains Lead Early

South Barber boys coach Brad Morris saw his squad take an early lead in the first quarter against the state-ranked Pretty Prairie and they trailed just 11-13 at the end of one. But the taller Bulldogs went on a 25-10 run in the second quarter and went on to win 60-45. The Chieftains made a run in the final period but the lead was just too much to overcome with just 6 players.

Dylon Molz led the attack with 22 points and 9 rebounds while Nick Morris added 12 points and dished out 7 assists. Luke Yearout was right behind with 5 points and 6 rebounds followed by Kendall Clark with 3 points and a team high 5 steals, and Christian Johnston 3 points. Freshman guard Jace Thurman added 3 steals and 2 assists to the total.
