The Kuna Planning and Zoning Commission has recommended annexing nearly 200 acres of land into the city of Kuna, including 107 acres north of Lake Hazel Road between Deer Flat and Linder roads.

Commission members voted on Wednesday, Aug. 26, to recommend approval of the annexations of five applications from five landowners.

The 107 acres owned by the city of Kuna are intended as a safety valve for disposing of effluent from the city's new wastewater treatment plant, which might not meet strict federal restrictions on levels of phosphorous that can be dumped into Indian Creek. In addition, the city has begun plans to turn the property into a massive regional park.

In conjunction with the 107-acre annexation, the commission members also recommended approving annexing nearly 60 acres belonging to state Rep. Rich Jarvis and 2.25 acres owned by Richard Jr. and Rebecca Jarvis. Those properties are contiguous to the city-owned land.

Also recommended for approval last week were annexations of about 20 acres owned by Leland and Kim Rice along Meridian Road, so that the Rices can restart their popular roadside farm-stand, a use that entails extensive red tape as county property. A roadside farm-stand in the city of Kuna, however, is an allowable use, so the Rices sought annexation into Kuna.
