Local sponsorship for Dairy Showcase

CopySeveral businesses and people with local ties were among the sponsors of the second annual Minnesota 4-H Dairy Showcase held at the Minnesota State Fair Sunday morning. Among them were Sjostrom Farms, Steve and Deb Sjostrom of Bernadotte Township, above. Their son and daughter-in-law, Lucas and Alise Sjostrom, now of Vermont, were also among the sponsors. The Sjostroms are pictured with Jacob Achen of Stearns County, who was the ninth place finisher in this year's event.
The Dairy Showcase recognizes the involvement, dedication, and passion of Minnesota's dairy youth through an application process. State Fair 4-H dairy exhibitors who received blue or purple ribbons in their respective classes were eligible to take part. A scorecard determined the top 25.
Among the six dozen sponsors were Elanco Animal Health of St. Peter, AgStar Financial Services, MN Corn Growers Association, Minnesota Holstein Association, Minnesota Junior Holstein Association, AMPI, Ruth Klossner of Bernadotte, and Brown County 4-H Livestock Committee. Sponsors provided $13,500 to be dispersed to the youth. Cash awards varied from $200 to $1,500. Twenty percent of the funds raised were set aside for 4-H animal science education purposes.
