An active senior is the first Student of the Month for the 2009-10 school year at Nicollet High School. Mark Blashack, 18, was honored by the sponsoring Nicollet Lions Club just prior to the start of the homecoming coronation Monday, October 5.

An "A" honor roll and dean's list student, Mark is active in a wide variety of school activities. He is student body president; a member of the National Honor Society, Knowledge Bowl, SADD, Science Club, and Science Olympiad; was in the three-act play; was on the football, basketball, track and golf teams and lettered in each sport; and is a football captain.

Blashack is currently enrolled in chemistry, drawing/painting, calculus, college biology, college writing, college economics, and band/choir.

Of his high school classes, Mark cites all of his classes as his favorites. He explained, "The teachers are great and make class interesting and different everyday."

Blashack hopes to attend the University of Minnesota, but he's undecided on his major,

Of the high points of his high school years, Mark stated, "Junior/senior football seasons, the band and choir trips--Hawaii, D.C., Florida, senior year so far, cheering with the Boom Squad, making Exploring With Roberto, and being with all my friends.'"

The best thing about attending high school at Nicollet, according to Blashack, is "The teachers are awesome! Without good teachers, the students wouldn't excel."

Mark couldn't think of any needed changes that need to be made at the school.

Outside of school, Blashack is involved in Boy Scouts, where he has achieved the level of Eagle Scout.

The son of Bill and Barb Blashack, Mark has one older brother, Joe, age 20. Bill is employed by Hewitt Roll-a-Dock and Barb at ProGrowth Bank in Nicollet. The family lives in Nicollet, just a few blocks from the school.
