The newest members of the Nicollet High School chapter of the National Honor Society were installed and honored at a special dinner Thursday. Attending the event were the initiates, continuing members of the chapter, parents, and honored guest Chad Johnson.

The evening began with a dinner in the school's Community Room, then continued with the installation ceremony in the theatre.

A detailed selection process brought six juniors to the induction ceremony. They are Blake Bode, Nick Mans, Taylor Meurer, Megan Poehler, Kasslin Swen-son, and Anna Skrien.

In addition to maintaining a 3.33 grade point average on a 4.0 scale, initiates must also exemplify the characteristics of service, scholarship, leadership and character. They must not have had any Minnesota State High School League violations.

After prospective initiates completed applications, a committee of NHS teachers made the final selection, based on community service, activities, and work experience.

In a candle lighting ceremony, continuing honor society members--inducted into the chapter last year--detailed the four characteristics and lit candles signifying them.

During brief remarks, chapter advisor Brad Koenig explained the entry requirements and benefits of National Honor Society membership.

Koenig told the audience, "Every one of these kids is in a lot of activities but, tonight, we applaud them for their academic activities. There are no winners or losers tonight, no crying. We honor what they did in the classroom. They have to spend their time very wisely."

He continued, "If I were a betting man, I would bet that none will be professional athletes--but all will have careers. I hope they will maintain the drive to achieve multiple goals--and to take time to be happy."

Koenig told the audience of parents and other family members, "Be proud of this group. They have done a lot already. I would hope they will accomplish a lot more."

Each new inductee will work with other members on group community service projects and contribute at least 30 hours of community service on their own.

The six new inductees join continuing members and officers Erika Blank, president; Jordan Rudenick, vice president; Jenna Mettler, secretary; Mark Blashack, treasurer; Derek Wills, historian; Jared Blackwell, Hannah Christenson, Brooklyn Corbett, Afton Emich, and Amanda Yost.

Koenig's sister, Lynn Krejci, provided roses for each member of the chapter and Donna Voges assisted in organizing the evening's program.
