Janesville - School raised $2,638 for its music and technology programs during a School House Rock picnic held on Tuesday, May 4.

According to Superintendent Zach Thurman, money will be used to purchase software for its technology program and to help keep the band program, which has been eliminated.

He said the school has to have $60,000 to maintain a full-time music position.

People bought dinner, which included hamburgers, chips and cake.

There were also baskets available for raffles. Each classroom adopted a basket and students brought in items to fill them.

Each basket had a theme -- one was filled with movies and popcorn, one basket was filled with candy and chocolate, one had baking items and another had a sports theme with tickets for a Reno Aces baseball game.

Janesville made $1,500 from the dinner and $1,138 off the raffle baskets.

Students also entertained the audience with musical performances led by music teacher Susie Blackwood.
