WMS Wildcats open season at Lorena

WHITNEY - The Whitney Middle School Wildcat football teams traveled to Lorena Thursday, Sept. 10, to take on the Leopards in their season openers.

Although the 7B Wildcats came up short with a 20-6 loss, they showed a lot of heart, Coach Randy Fulton reported. On offense the Wildcats were able to get on the board with a 66-yard pass from Dillon Elder to Kewon Williams. Other offensive standouts were Colby Sullivan, Trent Hill, and Rex Eubank. The defense was lead by Williams with four tackles, while Jacob Branscum and Elder had one each.

"The 8B team played a great ball game as these young 'Cats beat the Leopards, 8-0," Coach Fulton said.

The offense was lead by Jordon Davis who scrambled all over the field with a 40-yard TD and a 2-point conversion. Other standouts on offense were Cody Booth, Troyal Hopkins, and Mark Stracener. The defense was led by Nicholas Scocchio and Eric Brinegar with seven tackles each. Other defensive standouts were Mathew Reed'(5T), Davis (5T), and Steven Green and Lonnie Woodie, sharing two tackles each.

Fulton said the 7A played extremely well with the 'Cats winning 13-0. The offensive attack was led by Brett Gilchrist with 6-yard and an 11-yard TD runs, while Toby Emerson kicked the extra point. Other offensive standouts were Kendell Wimberly, Nate Ramirez, and Paul Davenport. The defense was led by J. T. Estep and Brett Gilchrist with five tackles each, Cole Brunett (3D, Garrett Lewis (3T), and Josh Ince (2T, interception).

"The 8A played a very tough game, with the score at the half 0-0," Fulton noted. "Although the Wildcats came up short, they played hard." Coach Fulton reported that the game was cancelled at the start of the fourth quarter.

"Theses guys really played well with Dillon Callaway leading the offense," Fulton explained. "Buddy Barnes got in the action as a running back and the quarterback, and did some hard running. Tavaris Owens also did some tough running with the ball."

Other offensive standouts were Dawson Lochridge, Jeb Eubank and Lazarus Flores. The defense was lead by Barnes and Owens, sharing seven tackles, Callaway (5T), Jose Gonzales (4T), and Gavin Bean (3T). The Whitney Wildcats travel to West Thursday, Sept. 17, to take on the Trojans. The 7B starts at 4:30 p.m., followed by the 7A at 5:15, the 8B at 6, and the 8A at 7:30 p.m.
